Casa de cultura do Morro da Garça - Morro da Garça, Minas Gerais, Brazil (2004)

In 2004 i joined Bum desing to developed a proposal in a public context for Cultural Center at Morro da Garça, a little city at the State Minas Gerais.
I was immediately captured to be in this context because of the historical background of this place, site of many romances of Guimarães Rosa, one of the greatest writers of Brazil.
This area is very particular of Brazil. They have a great cusine and a way of living very particular and outside of the routine of the great centers of the country like São Paulo or Belo Horizonte ( the closest capital).
Well, so i am talking about great history, nice cuisine, warm people... For me it´s already a good motivation to be involved with.
The follow images try to translate the project. It´s include a renovation of a local building of 1900 and an add-on of a new building to complement the architectonic program. The complex would rescue .... and provides to the local population, a cultural center with a physical infrastructure for: events, meetings,culinary, art-crafts, library and museum. Aim to rescue the local way of living and expose that to visitors or the next generations.
On the physical resources, the excitement was plus because we could counter-balance the new techniques of construction such as metal structures with the traditional local "taipa de pilão", wich consist of settlement of clay on a wood frame. A rudimentar system, heritage from the arabians.
